Global Papermaking Workshop
04/26/2014
Event Navigation
Explore spiritual and environmental economic aesthetic issues of global papermaking. In this three-hour workshop participants will view global papers and discus the history and contemporary practices of papermaking. The second half of the workshop will include a hands-on creation of bark paper, also called tapa or amate. This ancient proto-paper fuses mulberry fibers and has been used for many spiritual and aesthetic purposes in Africa, the Pacific Islands, and Mexico. Participants need no prior experience but should bring a hammer and a few small paint brushes. Instructor Dara Larson has studied papermaking and visited papermakers in the United States, Costa Rica, Japan, Mexico, Guatemala, and Brazil.
