SHOP MIX: An Exhibition of MIAD & UWM Lithography in the AiR Gallery on RedLine’s second floor
Opening reception April 30, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00pm | Show runs through May 30, 2015
SHOP MIX: An Exhibition of MIAD & UWM Lithography showcases printed works that demonstrate a broad range of lithographic techniques and engage with topics as diverse as the twenty-two students represented in the show. Some of the works are traditional lithographs printed from stones, while others are more contemporary approaches to the medium. The curator of the exhibition, Cynthia Brinich-Langlois, is a Redline artist who is teaching lithography courses this spring at both the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.
At the start of term, all students proposed a conceptual theme, which they developed over the course of the semester while acquiring skills necessary to apply the lithographic process to a larger artistic practice. Several students engaged with direct examinations of identity and detailed research into subcultures, superstitions, and mythologies, while others employed more oblique reflections on biological entities or formal explorations of the materials and marks inherent in the medium.
