Nicki Werner is an emerging sculptor from St. Louis, Missouri. Through object making, video, performance, and sound, her work addresses the ways in which we construct our own identities and conversely, how identities are constructed for us, as individuals and collectives. The work is ethnographic in the sense that it deals with symbols revealing of specific class, age, race, gender, and familial relations.
She earned her BFA in sculpture and Art History from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 2009 and her MFA from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2012. She has been exhibiting for 8 years at venues including Art Chicago at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, the Anderson Gallery in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Recent career highlights include a 2012-2013 teaching stint at Illinois State University in Bloomington, IL and a summer artist residency at Figure One Gallery in Champaign, IL. She is grateful to be a part of Redline Milwaukee.
