REPURPOSED RUNWAY DESIGN COMPETITION
DESIGNER APPLICATION
CALLING ALL FASHION DESIGNERS, ARTISTS AND STUDENTS to participate in RedLine Milwaukee’s 3rd Annual RePurposed Runway Design Competition. Designers/Artists will be asked to create a fashion forward garment and accessories using the Milwaukee 2013 citywide theme of “Environment and Water” as inspiration. Outfits must be made out of materials that are used, post consumer, or on its way to a landfill. We encourage you to use your imagination. The event’s concept is to explore new uses for materials that have reached the end of their life cycle.
RedLine Milwaukee, in all facets, strives to achieve its primary objectives of access, social consciousness, and professional development. This competition offers you, the designer/artist, great opportunities for professional development and visibility. The competition is open to all: professional designers, artists, students or would-be designers/artists. The RePurposed Runway Design Competition also satisfies RedLine’s social consciousness mission by continuing the conversation within community about green and sustainability issues.
Models will be provided for contestants this year.
Completed outfits are due at RedLine on or before 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2013.
Judging will take place this year at a RePurposed Runway Sneak Peak Press Event, July 11, 2013. RePurposed Runway Winners will first be announced at the Fusion Fashion Show, Friday, September 20, 2013. The general public as well as local press will attend the RePurposed Runway Sneak Peak Press Event. Entries will be judged by area fashion experts on six criteria: creativity, construction, use of recycled goods, design, theme content and overall look. Photography for the catalog will be taken the day of the cocktail party. Area Artists/Companies will be invited to create installations inspired by the Milwaukee citywide 2013 theme, “Environment and Water” at RedLine Milwaukee. Models wearing the contest pieces will be photographed in front of and within the installations for the 2013 RePurposed Runway Catalog.
Garments will be showcased and winners will be announced at RedLIne Milwaukee’s 5th Annual Fashion Show, “Fusion” which will take place on Friday, September 20, 2012. The Fine Art Catalog featuring the designers/artists’ contest entries will be produced and will be available the day of Fashion Show.
The contest will be limited to 30 designers. Applications will determine which 30 designers will compete for RePurposed Runway Prize Packages.
An equitable selection process will determine participation in the RedLine’s Repurposed Runway Competition. RedLine Milwaukee is an equal opportunity organization. Discrimination because of race, ethnicity, sex, religion, disability, or sexual orientation is prohibited.
To be considered, designers/artists must submit:
• Name, Address, Home Phone, Cell Phone and Email Address
• CD or jpeg’s of recent samples of garments you made (does not have to be made of
recycled materials). (between 2-3 images) *Note: CDs will not be returned*
• Designer/Artist statement (no more than 500 words) describing your work.
• Idea for your garment for this year’s competition.
